⚔ Amaryllis ⚔
I wrote Amaryllis as an assignement for school a few years back, we had to write a fairytale and I ended up with a prologue and 2 chapters and a few characters. I never gave back this work because it was the end of the year but I played with it a bit during the summer holidays. The chapters can be found below and I'll link artwork and character profile I've done for this story later on. This story is highly unlikely to be updated again.
CHARACTERS
I'll add the characters later :)
STORY
Once upon a time, in the faraway kingdom of Aranya lived a king and his daughter. The girl’s mother, named Dandelion, was a witch. Her and the king were in good terms, but weren’t dating. The princess was born from a one-night-stand in their youth, a time in which the then young witch was still experimenting with her want of a sexuality or lack of thereof. They named the little girl Amaryllis as all witches and their daughters were named after flowers.
The little girl grew happy and healthy, she didn’t see her mom often because she lived in Yardley at the end of the kingdom but she had a loving father. Her best friend was named Tom and was a nice lad with whom she always got in all kind of shenanigans. She usually spent her days discovering the castle with him and Chamomile, her cat familiar. They were often bothered by Great Great Uncle Alistair Julius the Third’s (he insisted on The Capitals) incessant whining, she and Tom once asked him if it was the reason he was assassinated, he looked hurt and her dad told her to never ask about it again. She listened, Uncle Alistair was annoying but hurting people was mean “and I’m not a meanie daddy! I’m six an’ a half, I’m big!” She had school too, of course because even princesses go to school.
Amaryllis was excited, her sixteenth birthday was coming, she had caught her father and Elias making out in the throne room (which meant that she needed to bleach her eyes) and she was now fifty bucks richer because Tom bet her that they weren’t dating. Honestly, he should have known better, it’s not like they were subtle about it. Her father called Elias “love” or “honey” for God’s sake! The worst was that she wasn’t even surprised, Tom was as dense as a brick when it came to those things. Proof of that, the gardener’s sibling had a crush on him and he hadn’t even noticed. Everybody but him knew! She prayed for Ariel, at the rate it was going, they would never have a boyfriend, at least not one named Tom. They could always try declaring their love but even their aggressive flirting didn’t seem to go through Tom’s thick skull. But never mind, her birthday was tomorrow! She hoped that her mother would be able to come but it was unlikely as there was an epidemic going on in Yardley, where she lived, and her healer’s talents were needed. Anyway, there she was, sitting at her desk doing her homework and bored as hell. Ama decided to that a little break wouldn’t hurt because she wouldn’t be able to work much longer otherwise, she turned on the disk drive and started dancing. She was an awful dancer but what mattered was that she was having fun. She was swirling in her and doing weird arabesque motion following the music’s tempo. Unfortunately, with a gesture a bit harsher than the others, her hand hit the beautiful vase her mom had given her for her birthday
and
it
fell…
She yelled and lunged towards the vase hoping to catch it before it shattered on the ground. She closed her eyes preparing for the impact and nothing. She opened her eyes and the vase was floating mid-air. Floating. What? Wait. Floating. Floating. It meant that she had power like her mom! She was a witch! Amazing!
She carefully put the vase back on its shelf and leaped out of her room, running all the way to her father’s office. She slammed the door open.
“Dad, dad, dad, didyouknowicandomagicihitthevaseanditfellbutitdidn’tactuallyandihavepowersan-”
King Felix was used to his daughter’s exuberance but that didn’t mean he could always understand her rambling and right now? He couldn’t make a single word out of what she was saying.
“Amaryllis, darling, breathe. I can’t understand a single word of what you are saying, can you run this by me one more time please?” He smiled kindly at her.
Amaryllis inhaled deeply. “Did you know I can do magic? I hit the vase and it fell but it didn’t actually and I have power now so I caught it. It’s so cool right?!!! It means I’m just like mom-
-andimagineallicoulddoandlikewitchessocool!!!”
“Darling you are rambling again.”
She squeaked and blushed “sorry..”
“Don’t worry” another smile “That’s fantastic! I’m so glad for you Ama, do you want to leave now for Yardley or will you wait a little?”
“I’ll leave after tomorrow, I’m staying for my birthday, I wouldn’t abandon you y’know” she pouted.
Felix smiled at her fondly “I know.”
“I’ll send Chamomile to tell mom and Tee if ze is okay with it. Bye bye dad!”
“Good idea. See you later darling.”
She kissed her father on the cheek and left.
Fortunately, Chamomile agreed to notify them and as soon as Ama was in her room, she called Tom and asked him to come over. They laid on the bed and Amaryllis started explaining what happened and that yes, she really did that and don’t look at me like that why would I be lying Tom! After a few demonstrations Tom agreed that it was “really fucking cool” and “insane”. Then they did the usual, painting their nails while Amaryllis teased Tom about his crush on Ariel, which inevitably ended with a furiously blushing Tom and a smug Ama as well as speaking about their futures shenanigans and pranks. Tom stayed for the night and they had a sleep-over with Chamomile who had come back earlier in the night. It was decided, Ama was to leave for Yardley in two days and Tom readily accepted the invitation to come with her, Great Great Uncle Alistair Julius III (GGUAJ III for the intimates) tagged along.
- Yardley -
Nasturtium was hanging the laundry in the garden when they noticed a black cat unnaturally bright blue eyes, the mark of a familiar, it was Chamomile. They invited zir in the house and went to call Dandelion. Chamomile was sitting at the table when Nasturtium came back with their wife, a cup of tea in zirs paws and an envelope beside zir.
“Hi!” Dandelion waved and Chamomile meowed in answer “Did Ama send you to give us this?” She gestured vaguely in direction of the letter, Cha looked at her judgmentally.
“Right, obvious” She smiled widely “Well then let’s see what Ama wants us to know!”
She opened the letter and started to read, frowning, Nasturtium gave her her glasses and she gave them a peck on the lips.
“So,” she said, giving the letter to her spouse “Ama discovered her powers, that’s amazing! You’ll have to tell her she had the right idea writing to us, well it was probably Felix’s idea wasn’t it?” Cha meowed in approval “Right, I don’t have any problems with her and Tom coming to Yardley, Alistair will be annoying though.” She scowled.
“We’ll take care of him, don’t worry Dee” Nasturtium reassured.
“I’m not worried hun, I know we can deal with him it’s just that...” She trailed off, thinking.
“He’s Alistair.” Nasturtium finished.
“Exactly.” Dandelion grimaced. Chamomile meowed in agreement.
“Anyway, tell Ama we’ll be happy to have her and friend over, we miss her a lot.” Dee told Chamomile.
Nasturtium nodded. “And wish her a good birthday for us to please.” they added.
Chamomile meowed and left. Nasturtium and Dandelion stayed in the warmth of their house, cuddling under a blanket on the couch and drinking herbal tea.
^ TopThat's all! Thank you for reading this :) I hope you enjoyed it though I know it's far from perfect and the writing is a bit wobbly (it may sometimes read like badly written fanfiction :| ) but I still like it so I wanted to share. 🌷
